On December 7, 1993, a 200 sq ft textile studio was set up at a non-descript address in Ballygunge, Kolkata.Use as many hand as possible was the mission statement.

Young women from different strata of society were employed and trained in the language and aesthetics of our rich textile heritage. The retail space, now a 2000 sq ft studio, displays and sells high quality Indian handcrafted wearable textiles.

Our collection comprises of specialized fabrics, stoles, scarves, shawls, patch scrolls, art textiles, sarees and garments.The textiles are all handcrafted by both men and women crafts persons using varied techniques of hand block printing, screen printing, roller textures, stencils, sprays, hand paint, surface ornamentation, hand embroidery, hand weaving, value addition such as batik, shibori, appliqué, felting,tribal embroidery and more. Weavers Studio’s innovative creations are inspired by historical textiles, Indian trade cloths, seasons, ethnic tribes, across the border cultures and contemporary techniques.

Weavers Studio has dedicated itself to working intensively and extensively at the grassroots level with craftsperson, textile and design institutes, museums, textile resource centres and experts. The Studio has conducted extensive studies in natural Dyes, especially indigo and is a member of various esteemed organizations and bodies of international repute promoting the cause of textiles from ancient trade.
