“As the legend goes, when the phoenix resurrects from the flames, she is even more beautiful than before.”- Anonymous
There is something very inspiring about a group of women coming together and working in synchronization to create something beautiful. What is even more interesting is the fact that the product made by some women with so much love and attention is being exhibited by another woman. This entire chain of women empowering women is an extraordinary process that has been occuring at Weavers Studio since 1993.
Throughout history women have been exploited, undermined and denied the place they deserve in society. They have been constantly told they are not good enough. In spite of the hardships they have faced and the turmoils they have endured, they have emerged victorious and come out stronger.
The women workers at Weavers Studio have not had easy lives. Many of them come from far off rural areas where the idea of a woman working is not easy to accept. The wages they earn at the Weavers Studio factory help them to run their households. The money they earn goes into providing an education for their daughters, therefore empowering the next generation of women. It is the sense of independence that Weavers Studio gives it’s women workers that give them the strength to face life with all it’s challenges.
Special mention should be made of Jamila Khatoon from the district of Narayanpur. She had been working at Weavers Studio for seven years and she is physically disabled. However Jamila has moved forward with grit and determination. She has shown courage in the face of adversity, she has not let her physical disabilities limit her possibilities. Weavers Studio had given Jamila an opportunity to lead a happy and fulfilling life.
At Weavers Studio, we strongly believe in a quote by the renowned poet, Maya Angelou- ” Each time a woman stands up for herself, she stands up for all women.”
